Pinhead Institute
The mission of this Smithsonian based program is to bring high-level scientific education to students across Colorado and parts of Utah. Through this program I have led interactive workshops on neuropathology and guppy evolution for students from elementary school through high school. |
Expand your Horizons NOCO
For the last three years I have helped lead a workshop with Dr. Laura Stein for middle school girls about guppy brains and behavior. This is a wonderful program that encourages middle school girls to attend workshops led by all women scientists! |
National Science Olympiad
The 2018 National Science Olympiad was hosted by Colorado State University. Through this I led two workshops for middle school and high school students from all over the country. I demonstrated electrophysiology on a cricket and the students were able to play with their brain waves. This was the first introduction of the "brain board" I built to demonstrate circuit level differences in the guppy brain! |
Science Field Day
In collaboration with a local outdoor gear store (Jax) and the Graduate women in science Northern CO chapter, I organized a science field day that provided the opportunity for kids in the community to come and play with 11 different hands on activities to bring together our wonderful Fort Collins community with some of the awesome women scientists working here. Kids were asked to fill out a "passport" that had a question associated with each activity, from glaciers to marine animals.
